Hechrachi finals

Mispar Hechrachi values aleph–tav with place values up to 400. Final forms ך ם ן ף ץ use the same numbers as כ מ נ פ צ. A word does not change value just because a letter sits at the end.

Gadol finals

Mispar Gadol keeps those standard values for non-final letters and raises finals to 500, 600, 700, 800, and 900. Position can change the total when a sofit appears.

שלום: 376 vs 936

Hechrachi: ש=300 + ל=30 + ו=6 + ם=40 = 376. Gadol: ש=300 + ל=30 + ו=6 + ם=600 = 936. The jump is the final mem (40 → 600). חי has no sofit, so both systems give 18.

Which to use

Match the chart your source prints. If finals equal standard letters, use Hechrachi. If finals show 500–900, use Gadol. Siduri (1–22) is a third job — see Mispar Siduri explained. Practical sofit mistakes: sofit errors.

Frequently asked questions

  • Which finals policy is “standard”?
Mispar Hechrachi (finals = standard letters) is the usual default on many tools, including this site’s Hebrew tab.
  • When does Gadol change a total?
Only when a final form appears. Words without ךםןףץ match Hechrachi on both tabs.
  • What is שלום in each system?
Hechrachi 376; Gadol 936 because final mem is 600 instead of 40.
  • Is Gadol the same as Siduri?
No. Siduri is positions 1–22. Gadol is Hechrachi with large finals.
  • Where do I calculate Gadol live?
Mispar Gadol Calculator page, with a Hechrachi compare tab.
