How to use number maps

Keep the letter value tables open when you want the forward letter→value chart.

  • Pick a named cipher

Ordinal, Full Reduction, Jewish, Reverse, Sumerian, Hebrew Hechrachi, Siduri, Gadol, or Greek — each tab is a different letter-to-number map.

  • Enter a value

The explorer lists every letter that equals that number in the active map. Empty means no letter carries that value — not a missing dictionary.

  • Compare one letter across maps

Select a result letter to see how its value changes under other systems. Sofit forms appear where the chart includes them.

Worked examples

Number maps run the usual math backwards: you start from a value and see which letters carry it. For the forward direction, see how a letter total is built.

  • Full Reduction value 1· A · J · S
    System
    Full Reduction (1–9 cycle)
    Letters
A=1, J=1, S=1 — three letters share the same Full Reduction place.
  • Ordinal value 12· L
    System
    English Ordinal
    Letters
    Only L equals 12 (A=1…Z=26).
  • Hechrachi value 40· מ · ם
    System
    Mispar Hechrachi
    Letters
Mem and final mem both count as 40 under Hechrachi.

Chart vs number maps vs decoder

  • Number Maps (this page)

Value → letters for a named cipher, plus cross-system letter compare. Interactive reverse of a single glyph’s place in the map.

  • Gematria Chart

Static letter → value tables for bookmarking and print. Full A→n / aleph→tav lists without typing a number.

Use gematria chart when that tool fits the question better.

  • Gematria Decoder

Value → indexed English words. Use when the question is which words share a total, not which letters equal a number.

Use Open decoder when that tool fits the question better.

When you need whole words that equal a value, not single letters, use the reverse gematria lookup instead.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a gematria number map?
A number map answers which letters equal a given value in a named cipher. It is the reverse of looking up one letter on a chart — not a word decoder and not a full-word calculator.
  • How is this different from the Gematria Chart?
The chart lists letter → value tables for print and quick A→n lookup. Number Maps takes a value first and lists matching letters, and can compare one letter across systems.
  • How is this different from the Gematria Decoder?
The decoder searches an English word index for spellings that sum to a number. Number Maps only returns letters from the cipher charts — never dictionary words.
  • Why can several letters share one value?
Some maps fold the alphabet (Full Reduction 1–9) or assign the same Hechrachi value to a letter and its sofit form. Shared values are map design, not a meaning claim.
  • Are AtBash, AlBam, and Mispar Katan included?
No. Those methods substitute or reduce before summing and are not flat letter→value charts on this page. Use Advanced Methods for those procedures.
