AtBash

AtBash pairs letters from the ends of the aleph–bet toward the middle: א↔ת, ב↔ש, ג↔ר, and so on. On this site the total is the sum of each partner’s Mispar Hechrachi value — not the original letter’s value. Practise the live tabs in the advanced Hebrew methods module.

AlBam

AlBam pairs the first eleven letters with the last eleven (א↔ל, ב↔מ, … כ↔ת). Again the sum uses Hechrachi values of the partners after substitution.

Aleph examples

Single aleph AtBash: א=400 = 400 (partner tav). Single aleph AlBam: א=30 = 30 (partner lamed).

Mispar Katan on שלום: ש=3 + ל=3 + ו=6 + ם=4 = 16 — each Hechrachi letter value reduced to one digit, then added. That is not a substitution cipher; it shares the advanced methods page because it is another non-default Hebrew method.

Limits

These tabs count Hebrew letters. Latin A–Z belongs on English tools. Methods like Milui or Kidmi are named but not computed — see the methods catalog.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does AtBash change the chart permanently?
No. For each letter you substitute, then read the partner’s Hechrachi value for the sum.
  • What is aleph in AtBash on this site?
Aleph → tav; tav’s Hechrachi value is 400.
  • What is aleph in AlBam?
Aleph → lamed; lamed is 30 in Hechrachi.
  • Is Mispar Katan a substitution cipher?
No. Katan reduces each Hechrachi letter value to one digit, then sums. It is on the same advanced page.
  • Do you compute Milui here?
No. Milui is listed as not computed on the advanced methods page.

Conclusion
