What sofit are
Five Hebrew letters take special final forms at the end of a word: kaf, mem, nun, pe, tzadi → ך ם ן ף ץ. Orthography, not a separate alphabet. Position counting without large finals uses Siduri positions 1–22.
Policy mismatch
Under Hechrachi, final mem is still 40. Under Gadol it is 600. Example שלום: Hechrachi 376, Gadol ש=300 + ל=30 + ו=6 + ם=600 = 936. If your friend's total is ~560 higher and the word ends in ם, check finals policy before arguing about addition.
How to check
1) Confirm the spelling includes a sofit. 2) Look at the source chart for that letter. 3) Run both tabs on the Mispar Gadol page. 4) If the chart shows 1–22 positions, you want Siduri — not Gadol. Drill both policies in the Hebrew finals and related maps module.
Latin traps
Typing “shalom” in English never produces sofit. That string belongs on the Jewish (English A–Z) cipher. Sofit errors only apply to Hebrew script. See Jewish vs Hebrew for that split.
